About Kill The Gibson:

The idea for a new website came sometime in the wee-hours a month or so before DefCon 27. I have been attending DefCon since 23 and really fell in love with LineCon. I sat in a line with some of the most interesting people I had ever met and for me was an experience that I would never forget. During DefCon 24 I realized that the interaction during LineCon sets the tone for many new comers for their entire con, so I decided I wanted to be a part of this amazing experience every single year. DefCon 26 my local DefCon group (DC713) decided to make a poker chip (I am working on a gallery of all of our swag in the days to come) to pass out and it was a huge success. I met a young man who was attending DefCon for the first time with his mom (he couldn’t have been more than 14 years old) and during our brief conversation his mother explained that he had some social anxiety issues and other health challenges that made things hard for him in school. She explained that she was so worried about bringing him to DefCon as she wasn’t sure how he would fit in or would do in such a large group. I asked if I could give him a hug (you should ask before giving hugs - I have learned this from Jayson E. Street) and he said yes; and I remember just saying to him “welcome home, welcome home”. And this is why I made this site, why I love LineCon and DefCon and QueerCon and CouchCon and GothCon and hell even PepperCon - this is my home, you all are my family and I can’t thank you all enough for welcoming all of us in.

Giving back:

We would love to do something for a local organization or charity and give back to the wonderful community of Las Vegas who has supported us for these past 30 years (all be it with a few news reports about the dangers of hack summer camp). During DC26 we passed out board games with the condition that all pieces be returned and in good working order. We later drove out to the Ronald McDonald House of Las Vegas and we gave them out to the families staying there. As I have personally benefited from this organization after losing twin girls I was grateful for the opportunity to do something nice for the families going through rough times with little ones in the hospital. We would love to organize other events like this in the surrounding area. If you would like to bring board games or other fun things to donate please contact @firesparkcons on twitter to help coordinate.

So that’s it all - I am going to open this up for comments, suggestions or if anyone wants to help please feel free to reach out to me.

Love you DefCon family!
